Gin
The word gin is derived from the French Genévrier, which means juniper and thus names the main ingredient. A gin is usually distilled with agricultural alcohol made from grain or molasses. The best known way of producing a gin is the so-called distilled gin. Juniper berries and other botanicals (spices, herbs, etc.) are macerated in agricultural alcohol (also called neutral alcohol), distilled and reduced to drinking strength. In recent years, gin has also made its way into home bars, although it was originally known as "Bartender's Darling". However, the gin is by no means a mass product, but mostly a small, fine specialty that is carefully composed and distilled.
