Planeta

Planeta
Planeta. The name is synonymous with wine, rather a range of wines. But it also stands for a journey through Sicily, which begins in the west in the province of Agrigento, near Sambuca and Menfi, and travels south-east to the provinces of Ragusa and Syracuse and finally north-east to the province of Catania, to Mount Etna. The adventure of the three young Sicilian wine enthusiasts Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta began in the mid-80s in the Campagna of Sambuca, in the province of Agrigento - more precisely in the Contrada Ulmo against the backdrop of Lake Arancio - with the first vineyards and the first winery. Today it is over 50 hectares of vineyards with an ancient stone building, a so-called "baglio", as the operations center.
In the Contrada Dispensa in the hinterland of Menfi are the other estate and two wineries. In a sense, a real 'experimental station', since the Planetas sensed the possibilities of the international varieties here towards the end of the 90s and initiated a whole series of experiments. Further south, already in the province of Ragusa, is the Dorilli winery near Vittoria. The Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Planeta's first D.O.C.G. plant, comes from the 28 hectares planted so far. An antique farm forms the framework for the brand new winery. And finally Noto and the 60 hectare winery in the Contrada Buonivini (which aptly means 'good wines'!). But the journey continues to the last big goal: Mount Etna.
