Il Carnasciale
The Podere Il Carnasciale is managed as a family business by Bettina and Moritz Rogosky, in close cooperation with the oenologist and cellar master Peter Schilling. Vittorio Fiore and the agronomist Remigio Bordini have been providing additional advice since the company was founded in 1986. The Caberlot grape variety was discovered in the early 1960s in an old vineyard near Padua. It combines the profile of Cabernet Franc with the characteristics of Merlot, and it is considered a natural crossing of the grape varieties, a hybrid. The encounters with Fiore and Bordini led to the decision that only Podere Il Carnasciale would plant Caberlot. It was Wolf Rogosky's idea from the start to produce a wine with a unique character and fill it in magnum bottles. The first vineyard was planted in 1986 and three more plots followed in 1999, 2004 and 2011.
Today the winery consists of three distinct slopes in different micro-zones, autochthonous and very stony. The area planted exclusively with Caberlot is 3 hectares, with extreme vine density. Carnasciale is worked like in haute couture: only by hand and with special attention to detail, precision and perfection. The floors are worked with minimal intervention, according to the rules of lutte raisonnée, and all treatments are nature-friendly. Our harvest begins when the grapes are at their optimal phenolic ripeness, with manual selection already in the vineyard, according to the motto 'What doesn't go into the mouth doesn't go into the wine'. Yields remain below 25hl per hectare.
