Anise liquer
Aniseed liqueur comes from the French and is derived from the word anisé, which means "aniseed flavored". This term includes both liqueurs and unsweetened spirits, all of which come from the Mediterranean region. Aniseed liqueurs can be enjoyed pure or diluted with water or used to mix cocktails. Aniseed liqueurs are made from high-proof spirits such as fruit brandy or grain brandy with the addition of a lot of sugar and spices. To get the anise aroma, either real anise or the cheaper star anise is added. Aniseed liqueurs are often drunk as an aperitif or as a "digestive schnapps".
