Morgante

Morgante
The Morgante winery is located in the unspoilt southern Sicily, near the town of Grotte in the province of Agrigento, which was once famous for its sulfur mines. The Morgante family has been growing wine and farming there for five generations. In 1994, Antonio Morgante, supported by his sons Carmelo and Giovanni, decided to vinify the grapes from their own vineyards themselves. Since then, the family has been conducting extensive research into the optimal interaction between wine-growing tradition and innovations in production technology in order to express the characteristics of the autochthonous grape varieties of their homeland in the best possible way. In addition to the connection to traditional local grapes, innovation and working with international grape varieties play an important role. In 1997, a happy coincidence brings Riccardo Cotarella to the winery. With the commitment of the famous oenologist, the research activities in the vineyard are optimized and the vinification techniques are further perfected. Cotarella and the Morgante family share a passion for Nero d'Avola and the goal of making it a great red wine. Morgante's property extends over 200 hectares planted with vines and almond trees. The hilly terrain is between 300 and 500 meters above sea level and is just 25 kilometers from the famous Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. The area offers ideal conditions for viticulture with its Mediterranean climate and loamy and calcareous soil. The Nero d'Avola grape variety, which is undoubtedly the most important grape for excellent red wines from Sicily, has been cultivated here by the family for many years. Each step of the production, from the vineyard to the cellar, is controlled with the utmost care by the members of the family. And everyone contributes in their own way to achieving the common goal and producing wines of the highest quality.
