Zedda Piras Mirto di Sardegna Rosso is a classic liqueur from the island of Sardinia. On the one hand, it comes from the rural tradition and a long tradition of black distillers on the island. It is made from the red berries of the myrtle, Myrtus comunis. Initially its color is ruby red to violet, becoming warmer over time.
Since it was founded in 1854, Zedda Piras Mirto has been producing according to traditional processing methods and with strict quality controls. For this purpose, the myrtle berries and leaves are collected from wild bushes in the forests of Sardinia between the end of November and January. This is done by hand in order not to damage the plants and to preserve the full and intense aromas of the fruit.
In the glass it unfolds the aromas of Sardinia and it is said that one dreams particularly intensively after a Mirto with the digestif. Fresh berries, leaves, alcohol, water and sugar have always been the ingredients for real Sardinian Mirto. Then nothing. The berries soak in the alcohol for a long time and release coloring and flavorings. Then they are removed and the liquid continues to mature. With pure Sardinian water, the alcohol content is reduced and after adding honey instead of sugar, the whole thing is filtered again.
