Hugh MacAskill of the Isle of Eigg bought the house of Talisker and the northern tip of the Minginish peninsula on the rugged and beautiful Isle of Skye in 1825.
Five years later, he and his brother set up a distillery on the shores of Loch Harport, which has become one of the most famous distilleries in the world. By 1898, Talisker was already one of the best-selling malt whiskeys in Britain.
This northern outpost has survived fires, wars, and financial crises. It still produces fine whiskeys that, once tasted, will never be forgotten. Intense and powerful, the Talisker family is characterized by its peaty, smoky flavor notes. This aroma comes from the burning of peat during malting and is characterized by the salty smoke of this windswept island. Under the smoke one discovers soft fruits and grains, with the older bottlings a strong vanilla note due to the long maturation process.
