Bruichladdich is Scotland's most westerly distillery. It is situated on Loch Indaal on the island of Islay. The distillery was once referred to by locals as the beauty on the loch.
After it was reopened in May 2001 by the traditional managing director and co-owner Jim McEwan, it has once again become a real feast for the eyes. The snow-white distillery buildings, the azure windows, the black-grey roofs and not forgetting the old mash tun with the wooden wash backs and the four stills.
Incidentally, the Bruichladdich house also produces the Malt Port Charlotte, a strictly limited whiskey that, in contrast to the Bruichladdich, is heavily peated, and the Octomore, an extremely heavily peated whiskey.
