After three generations as purveyor of port wine to the royal court, Clemente da Silva took over the old wine company "Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos" from his wife's family in 1933 and led it to international fame under the name C. da Silva. Presidential Port wines from the world's oldest protected wine-growing region, the Douro Valley (UNESCO World Heritage Site), are made from selected grapes according to strict guidelines. They mature under ideal conditions on terraces along the Douro River. C. da Silva allows the port wines to mature longer than usual. Plenty of rest and storage in the vaulted cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia near Porto produce exquisite results.
