For many years, the House of Ferrand has maintained good relationships with the best distilleries in the Caribbean, which in the past bought the Ferrand casks used for refinement. In the course of the collaboration, Alexandre Gabriel had the opportunity to discover various old distillates with an impressive variety of aromas. He liked the qualities so much that he decided to bring these extraordinary rums onto the market. The PLANTATION series was born.
Each rum is produced according to the traditional methods of its country of origin and can thus impressively express the full potential of its homeland. Distillation methods vary depending on the plantation and country of origin. "Copper stills" (pot stills), which have been in use for more than 700 years, create smooth aromatic rums. Column stills, invented in the early 1800s, produce light, elegant rums. Molasses, or cane juice, is distilled in small distilleries, the distillate then being transferred to oak casks that previously mostly held bourbon; a process that gives the brandies their special personality. In the Caribbean climate, the rums can develop their aromas fully and intensively during the several years of maturing in old cellars warmed by the tropical sun.
