The success story of the Marsala D.O.C. Sicilia Fine Fortified Wines begins with a capable man by the name of John Woodhouse. When he landed in the port of Marsala, a port city in Sicily, in 1770, he was offered a regional wine specialty. Immediately impressed by the unique taste, he saw the potential and planned to export it to England. His small business project started as early as 1773 and the wine received a final touch before it was shipped: to increase its shelf life over the long journey, he added alcohol.
The soft and harmonious liqueur is stored in oak barrels for at least a year in order to be able to develop its unique taste potential. In the glass it appears dark red with amber reflections. Balanced tones of caramel, nuts and vanilla appear on the palate. A honey aroma brings a pleasant sweet component.
With its complex and slightly smoky aroma, the Marsala DOC Sicilia Fine has always found its way into the kitchen. It can be used in hearty dishes or desserts alike and add a new complex dimension. Last but not least, it is known worldwide as Chicken Marsala. But it is also a pleasure on its own and can also boast as an aperitif or digestif.
