Founded in 1881, Bunnahabhain means mouth of the river. It is in the very north of the Scottish island of Islay. Unlike most distilleries on Islay, Bunnahabhain stands for the gentle taste of Islay - the mild taste of the island. Bunnahabhain is not your typical heavily peated Islay Malt. Rather, the maritime aromas of the island and a fine sherry sweetness are in the foreground. The fresh spring water and sea air make Islay's north-east coast a perfect place for producing whiskies. Bunnahabhain is the only Islay single malt that even has a natural water source for production. Bunnahabhain Distillery, the most northerly distillery on the Isle of Islay, has recently been relaunched non chill filtered and uncolored whiskeys. Its degree of purity was increased to 46.3% vol. A move that has delighted whiskey lovers and experts around the world. Bunnahabhain is Burn Stewart Distillers' best-known brand and is sold in over 30 countries. The exceptionally high quality of the whiskeys has been recognized worldwide by numerous awards in recent years.
