Bruno Giacosa from Neive in the DOC Barbaresco area is known all over the world as a master of traditional style. His Barolos and Barbarescos are monuments - heavy, powerful, yet overflowing with pure fruit. They are also highly elegant, just as one of the great Nebbiolo crus should be according to the textbook. All wines, including the much-vaunted Barbera from the Falletto site in Serralunga, mature in large barrels with a capacity of several thousand liters. The trick, as the master himself says, is to moderate the temperatures during the alcoholic fermentation and not to overdo it during the maceration.
