Glengoyne is a unique distillery in many ways. It is the southernmost of all Highland distilleries and probably one of the most beautiful in all of Scotland, as is often said. Founded in 1833, Glengoyne is about 25 minutes' drive north-east of Glasgow near the village of Killearn. Much of the distillery is still handmade with six wooden washbacks made from traditional Oregon pine and only three pot stills (one wash still & two spirit stills). One of the few distilleries uses Golden Promise barley, which produces fewer fruits than normal barley, but is of excellent quality. Additionally, Glengoyne only uses unpeated malt as they believe without the peat and smoke flavors in the malt, the natural flavors and fruity notes can develop more freely and freely.
But one of Glengoyne's real secrets lies in the wood of the casks it uses. American or Spanish oak is used in which almost exclusively premium sherry from Jerez is stored before the casks come to Scotland and look forward to the whiskey.
