This exclusive rum is the life's work of one of the most important and enterprising Danes of his time, the pharmacist and privy councilor Alber Heinrich Riise. Originally from the small Danish island of Ærø, he moved to the Caribbean after completing his studies. There he lived from 1838 to 1878 with his wife Henrietta Marie on the island of St. Thomas. Albrecht Heinrich Riise, Master of Science in Pharmacy, was granted the privilege by Royal Decree to run a pharmacy in the capital of Charlotte Amalie in the Danish West Indies, becoming the first pharmacist on the island. His diligence and regular trading trips, during which he made useful discoveries, ensured that the St. Thomas Apothecary became better known to the residents of the surrounding Caribbean islands. His passion for exotic flora and fauna and his productivity also brought him into contact with the islands' thriving rum business. He soon became a supplier to the Danish Navy. AH. Riise's blended rum was particularly popular with the sailors, who received part of their pay in "liquid currency".
Over time, A.H. Riise Rums became more and more popular and found their way from the small Caribbean pharmacy to the whole world.
