When Daniel E. Williams first started at the distillery, he shoveled malted barley all day. At night he slept in the hayloft. He was a classic self-made man and quickly rose to fame. In 1873 he became director, later he owned the whole distillery. Single-handedly, he managed to turn a good whiskey into a very special whiskey. Some time later he began to label every bottle of whiskey that left the Tullamore distillery with the initials D.E.W. to provide - not without pride in his achievements.
All good things come in threes at Tullamore D.E.W. Three natural ingredients. Three different grains. Three distillations. And a successful combination of all three types of Irish whiskey: Pot Still, Malt and Grain.
