The family business was founded by Jean Goyard, a true son of Burgundy. His father was a wine grower himself, but in 1911 Jean began to conquer Champagne with two stills pulled by trucks. Wherever he could find pomace, he distilled it with his mobile plants, finally settling in Ay, in the heart of champagne viticulture, and began distilling for winemakers and wine merchants alike. Jean Goyard distilled both pomace and wine.
Over the decades, the company has developed from its mobile beginnings to today's company with locations in Ay and Mareuil sur Ay. The company has been constantly modernized, diversified and is now the leading specialty distillery in Champagne.
