The eye:
Deep ruby red

The nose:
Notes of berries, spices and cherry jam

full-bodied, soft and balanced, rich in fine tannins with a very nice long-lasting finish.

Three vineyards - one letter that identifies them. “F” as in Feudi di San Marzano, another important milestone in our history. The Negroamaro is a very old grape variety; in this form it is a particularly velvety and elegant wine, suitable for aging.

Type of soil in the vineyards: Red, fine soil and soil usually interspersed with a limestone substrate, with rare rocky patches. The famous red color of this soil can be attributed to iron oxide deposits
Harvest time: Last week of September
Fermentation: The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small baskets. Destemming, pressing, cold maceration at 8°C and subsequent fermentation at a constant temperature between 24 and 26°C. Racking with gentle pressing
Aging: Malolactic fermentation in steel tanks and subsequent aging in French and Caucasian oak barrels for a period of 12 months
Serving temperature: 18°C.

the winery
Far in the southeast of Italy, in the Apulian province of Taranto, lies the municipality of San Marzano di San Giuseppe, home of the Cantine San Marzano. Wine lovers from all over the world naturally know the cult wine of this region: the Primitivo di Manduria.
 
But in 1962 the Primitivo was still a long way from this cult status when 19 winegrowers fulfilled their dream and founded their own winery. From the very beginning, both the winery and its level of fame have grown year by year.
 
At the beginning of the 1980s, Francesco Cavallo was appointed chairman of the board, and he still manages the fortunes of the winery with great ingenuity to this day. In the meantime, the formerly 19 winegrowers have become several hundred.
 
With the introduction of bottling in the mid-1990s, the "commodity" became a branded product with recognition value, whose flagship today is undoubtedly the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria, which is now even counted among the new "classics".
