LINIE Aquavit has been made in Norway since 1821 using the same recipe. It is distilled from potatoes and then brought to a fine clear aquavit in a pot still with a blend of herbs and spices.
LINIE is the oldest aquavit brand in the world. It all started in 1805 when the Norwegian merchant family Lysholm shipped potato aquavit to the East Indies. Here people were completely uninterested in buying it, so the aquavit was sailed back to Norway. Upon his arrival in 1807, sea voyage was found to have greatly improved the taste.
Even today, Linie Aquavit is shipped across the equator twice before it can be bottled. Line is the Norwegian word for equator. On each bottle of the Double Cask line you can read exactly on which dates these equator crossings happened.
